Virtual Reality (VR) Casinos and Slots

2017 was the year of the Oculus Rift – finally it is also for the masses and not only for developers. The price of 700€ is a bit higher than originally expected and there are still some really interesting applications missing that would convince even non-geeks to buy it. So it is not to be expected that the Oculus Rift will be relevant before 2019/2020.

But nevertheless the casino area is already busy with precautions. SlotsMillion is a casino from Malta that has been advertising with VR technology for quite some time. They have speculatively bet on it and are light years ahead of the competition. I myself could test SlotsMillion with Oculus Rift already and I do not want to withhold my conclusion from you:

The function is really simple, you put on the glasses and if necessary headphones. You get an XBox controller pressed into your hand where you don’t necessarily have to memorize complicated key combinations. A visit to a casino like this cannot be compared to Fifa. You move forward, sit down at a machine, press play and get up again. You have a cursor with your viewing direction, which means you simply select things like payout lines and bet height. If you have never held a controller in your hand in your life, you might have problems with it. Otherwise, you’ll really find yourself inside in a few seconds.

What you then do in virtual reality is actually clear. You move around in a virtual casino, have to dodge other players from time to time, but otherwise you can sit down unhindered at all possible slot machines. The selection for SlotsMillion is usually very tidy, but still expandable. You have to keep in mind that all this is still a kind of beta version. It is to be assumed that the arcades will reach dimensions at some point to accommodate several hundred machines.

Back to the topic: Playing with the Oculus Rift is much more realistic on slot machines than on the PC, but the difference is not so big that I have to buy such glasses right now and just play with them. I think the VR technology is much more useful for other casino games like Blackjack or Roulette, where you can socialize even better. And I imagine that to be quite ingenious. You walk around, sit down at a roulette table where other players are already sitting, make your bets by looking across the field and you can talk to the dealer and other players on the side. This is a real expansion of live dealer casinos, isn’t it? In such a case I can well imagine that VR Casinos will experience a breakthrough and turn the whole industry upside down.
Whatever will happen, we will keep you up to date here!
